Recently a draft document leaked from the Supreme Court indicates that a preliminary majority of justices would vote to overturn Roe v. Wade, which infamously struck down state laws banning abortion in 1973. The Left has reacted with all too predictable anger and outrage, as well as firm resolve that murdering children is a woman’s “right” that will be forever protected throughout the United States. The mainstream conservative response has ranged from jubilation to cautious optimism. Many acknowledged that whatever happens when a final judgment is reached in June that there is still much work to be done.
The Right typically loses political battles because they fail to appreciate the tactics employed by the Left. The leak suggesting that Roe is in jeopardy and the apoplectic reaction by Democrat politicians and celebrities is a good tactical move. The aim is to energize the DNC’s liberal base and obscure Republican talking points about what a dumpster fire the Biden administration has been. Many conservative media outlets have pointed out the illegal and unethical nature of the leak and seem to place hope that Chief Justice John Roberts’ investigation will restore order. The contrast between the two reactions demonstrates why liberals are winning the culture war.
Liberals treat the culture war as an actual war. Political protocols and ethics are, at best, mere guidelines that can be used as a weapon against ideological enemies, but should never be accepted as legitimate when used against you. This explains why liberals are never troubled by conservative accusations of hypocrisy. Liberals will appeal to “science” when harping on why the government should mandate experimental gene therapy for everyone including children, and in the next breath and without the slightest hint of irony argue that abortion rights derive from the principle of bodily autonomy.
Liberals will complain about the “tyranny” of even the most rudimentary border control while enforcing the use of “preferred gender pronouns” in everything from public discourse to online social media platforms. For liberals free speech is a tool that can be used to justify the worst degeneracy and filth being used to warp the minds of children, all while liberal celebrities worry about Elon Musk allowing uncensored speech on Twitter.
So it is with the abortion issue. Liberals have no qualms about naked appeals to authority when it comes to their “right” to abortion, but when the same institution signals waning support threats of violence are made or at least encouraged. If the Supreme Court continues to go along with the Leftist agenda as it has ever since the days of Earl Warren, then its authority will continue to be touted, but if it wanders off the reservation and challenges liberal dogmas then it must be undermined at virtually any cost.
Conservatives often find Leftist tactics to be hypocritical and duplicitous. Indeed they are, but there is something that conservatives could learn from the Leftist mentality. Liberals are determined to win at any cost. All political agreements and principles of morality are easily subordinated to the values that they hold dear. Is it okay to lie, cheat, and steal? It is…if you’re doing so in order to defeat ___ (fill in the blank) racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, the patriarchy, etc. These are the only values that really matter. Everything else can be written off as a polite social convention.
The reason that the Left fights so ardently is that the principles upon which liberalism is based can only be realized by either achieving an adequate degree of social consensus or having their values imposed at gunpoint by the government. The mainstream Right, mockingly referred to as Conservative, Inc. by more knowledgeable conservative thinkers scoffs at liberals when they express concern that overturning Roe v. Wade will lead to the end of “marriage equality” (miscegenation and sodomy) as well as enforced desegregation and universal voting rights. But why shouldn’t the Left be concerned about these issues? The reason that Conservative, Inc. doesn’t believe that these “rights” will be compromised is because they generally agree with them. At most mainstream conservatives will quibble about the definition of marriage being between a man and a woman, but won’t seriously challenge the gay rights agenda.
But the Left has every reason to fear the overturning of Roe v. Wade because liberal values aren’t rooted in a belief in God or His divine revelation. The right to life and property are revealed by God and enshrined in the Ten Commandments (Thou shalt not kill and Thou shalt not steal, respectively). The only way that liberal values can be realized is for civil and social institutions to enforce them. This explains why the Left advocates for “free speech” when it comes to promoting degeneracy and in favor of censorship of conservative ideas when it comes to social media platforms. If the institutions that enforce liberal orthodoxy ever fail to do so then there is a very real possibility that the manufactured consensus needed to affirm liberal “rights” will evaporate.
I remember watching Seinfeld in college and noting the flaw in Elaine’s argument during an informal debate over abortion during the episode called, The Couch. During the argument Elaine is asked what gives her the right to have abortions. She angrily replies that the Supreme Court gives her the right. But what if new justices on the court were to decide differently in the future? This “right” would evaporate just as quickly as it had been conjured into existence. The same could happen with all other “rights” based upon mere judicial fiat.
This is why the Left fears the reversal of Roe won’t stop at limiting access to abortion, but could also lead to a rejection of other “rights” that are equally as flimsy as the “right” to an abortion. If Roe is a bad decision made without warrant from divine revelation or rooted in the common law tradition, then what does that mean for other Supreme Court decisions like Brown v. Board of Education, Lawrence v. Texas, Griswold v. Connecticut, Loving v. Virginia, Obergefell v. Hodges which established “rights” that liberals hold so dear? Liberals understand what is truly at stake while many conservatives remain oblivious.
Meanwhile the secular Alt Right are rightly concerned about the dysgenic effects that a full-scale repeal of Roe v. Wade would usher in. There is good reason to believe that universally legalized abortion contributed to the decline in crime in major cities two decades after the Roe v. Wade decision when those who might have been born would have reached young adulthood and their years of peak criminality. The demographic correlation of race with abortion undoubtedly plays a major role in forestalling the day when whites are swamped by non-white populations within their historic homelands.
Mainstream conservatives are overly obsessed with the abortion issue and have allowed it to side track their attention while liberals have enshrined other “rights” into law and judicial precedent. Much of the mainstream conservative rhetoric that is employed against abortion assumes the social justice mindset of the Left to the extent that many “pro-life” activists are basically social justice warriors. A common Christian response to pro-abortion rhetoric has been to accept liberal talking points about “caring for children” after they are born by supporting socialist policies for re-distributing wealth. Many Roman Catholics now accept social justice activism along with paying lip service against abortion as part of what the late Chicago Cardinal (and likely Satanist) Joseph Bernardin called “the seamless garment.” I know of a local evangelical church that now mostly ignores abortion on “respect life Sunday” and instead turn it into a celebration of trans-racial adoption.
This kind of response turns human life into a virtual idol in which even the lives of abject pagans must be preserved at literally any cost. The Bible presents a more nuanced position in which the intentional taking of life is murder and an offense punishable by death, but at the same time the prophets don’t express the concern held by many modern Christians for the well-being of pagans. Instead we read about the posterity of the wicked being cut off (Ps. 109:13). The modern practice of abortion is a symptom of rebellion against God which flows from and results in a love of death (Prov. 8:36). Christians ought to see abortion as a judgment of God against those who have rejected Him.
Ironically Conservative, Inc. has made abortion the most important social policy issue and simultaneously made very little progress against the pro-abortion crime syndicate. Our enemies are willing to disregard rule of law and the political process. The Left refuses to see the Supreme Court as an extension of traditional Anglo-Saxon common law, but as a battering ram to wreck what remains of Western Civilization and establish the “rights” so recently conjured into existence. On the occasions that the political process doesn’t play out in their favor, the Left has no qualms about engaging in violence to get their way; all while accusing conservatives of “insurrection” during the January 6th protest.
The Right has been losing the culture war because mainstream conservatives aren’t fighting with the same ardor as the Left. Conservatives have largely capitulated to liberal values, and have attempted to couch opposition to abortion in terms of equality. Secular alt-righters have surrendered on the abortion issue because of demographic concerns. Ultimately I agree with Hunter Wallace’s assessment of abortion from an ethno-nationalist perspective. Abortion severs the natural bond between a mother and her child, and is a symptom of a greater spiritual sickness plaguing the West. While abortion has mitigated white demographic decline, white demographics have actually declined since abortion became universally legalized in the Roe v. Wade decision. In fact everything in the West has gotten worse since the legalization of abortion.
Wallace notes, “It is no coincidence that we got civil rights, interracial marriage, legalized abortion, multiculturalism, gay rights and feminism all within ten years. The reasoning that sustained Roe also sustained a right to sodomy.” Conservatives need to relinquish their belief in principled pluralism and equality and see abortion as a facet of a larger war for the very future of civilization. The Left hates Christianity so it will stop at nothing in its quest to destroy Christian civilization. Conservatives continue to treat liberals as though the unmitigated slaughter of the unborn is simply a good faith disagreement between neighbors, and until the genuine Right wakes up to reality, we can continue to expect the Left to keep winning.
