The Whimper of the Sheltered Saxon

(With apologies to Rudyard Kipling.)

The virus was not in their blood,
It came to America very late,
With fear and panic that was no good,
When the Saxon sheltered in place.

They were all easily moved,
They were impatient – unwilling to wait,
And didn’t care if it could be proved,
When the Saxon sheltered in place.

Their credulity high and suspicions low,
With glazed eyes and resigned to their fate,
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon sheltered in place.

The media preached it to the crowd.
It was taught by the State.
The pundits all spoke it aloud.
When the Saxon the sheltered in place.

Our degeneration was not suddenly bred.
It will not swiftly abate.
Through the chilled years ahead,
When time shall count the date
That the Saxon sheltered in place.
